Lev Bogorov was born in 1944 in Moscow, Russia, in the former USSR. He is the younger of two sons in a family of scientists.
Lev studied painting at several private studios until the age of nineteen, when his father forbid him from exhibiting his work publically under fear of persecution. He attended Moscow State University and earned a PhD in Microbiology.
Lev immigrated to the United States with his wife and daughter in 1994 and they settled in New Haven, Connecticut. He gradually lost his Soviet-era fears and started to express himself freely in his paintings. He has exhibited across the Northeast.
